April wants others to know that HIL is a place where personal and professional growth is truly possible—and that feeling a sense of belonging is just as important.

April Davis has been a dedicated employee-owner of Homes for Independent Living (HIL), a MyPath Company for over 17 years. From her very first day, April has been a well-rounded team member, consistently demonstrating her commitment to building strong relationships with the individuals she supports as well as with her fellow staff. She knew early on that HIL was a place where she could see herself building a long-term career—and that’s exactly what she’s done.

April has developed a true passion for mentoring and training new Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) who join the organization. She takes pride in sharing her vast knowledge and years of experience, hoping that her guidance will inspire others to grow and remain with the organization as she has.

A typical day for April includes assisting with daily care needs, shopping, and transportation. Over time, she has grown tremendously in areas requiring patience, clear communication, and empathy. One of April’s favorite moments is being greeted by residents with a smile, which brings her joy each day and reinforces that they feel safe and supported in her presence.

April also takes great pride in offering reassurance—not only to residents but to her coworkers as well—especially when challenges arise. Her presence provides a sense of calm and confidence to those around her. Beyond her daily responsibilities, April has also fostered strong connections within the broader community. She has built stability and consistency not only with clients and coworkers but also with neighbors, often participating in neighborhood activities like parades and themed parties.

Reflecting on her time at HIL, April wants others to know that this is a place where personal and professional growth is truly possible—and that feeling a sense of belonging is just as important. Her journey is a testament to the impact that dedication, compassion, and community can have over time.

Working at a MyPath Company

Our employees are why MyPath companies work so well for the people we serve. They’re the reason we’re 100% employee-owned and have nine MyPath companies and 150 locations throughout Wisconsin and Indiana. To help take care of the future of our people, employees who are with us for a year, with over 1000 hours of work, begin to receive company-funded MyPath stock shares. After that first year, continued employment with us means continued growth in the number of company shares you receive.

This culture of ownership goes beyond stock. As an employee owner, you can expect transparency, respect and appreciation. If you are called to help others and be part of something bigger, MyPath can help you explore opportunities throughout its many organizations.
