Aubrey's Story

Homes for Independent Living became like a second home to Aubrey. She had found the right company and the work she truly loved.

Twelve years ago, Aubrey was out running errands with her mother, who was a Homes for Independent Living (HIL), a MyPath Company employee. During one stop, they quickly popped into the Manitowoc office. What was meant to be a short errand sparked Aubrey’s immediate interest in learning more about what HIL offered and how she could become part of the team. She applied right away, and just two days later, she interviewed and accepted the DSP position. Looking back, Aubrey says it was one of the best decisions she has ever made.

Today, Aubrey Hansen serves as the Service Coordinator for the Manitowoc region, but her journey with HIL began long before this role. When she joined the company 12 years ago, she started as a DSP in a skilled-care, four-bed AFH. With prior CNA experience, Aubrey appreciated the opportunity to use her skills to support medically complex clients.

After about two years, Aubrey was eager to continue learning and expanding her experience within the company. She stepped into a supervisory role at an eight-bed CBRF in the region. During her six years at the program, it became like a second home to her. It was there that she realized she had found the right company and the work she truly loved.

In 2022, HIL introduced the Employee Support Specialist position. Although it was difficult to leave her clients, Aubrey embraced the opportunity to support current DSPs and DSSs across the region. She used the knowledge and experience she gained in direct care to mentor and guide staff, promoting that clients received the highest quality care and support. Aubrey also played an important role in onboarding new employees, sharing personal stories from her time in the programs while providing encouragement, support, and a warm welcome to each new team member.

In 2024, Aubrey transitioned into her current role as Service Coordinator, where she focuses on the overall needs of the programs. While she now supports clients more indirectly, she knows that everything she does contributes to their success, happiness, and well-being.

Aubrey consistently goes above and beyond, and her passion and commitment to this work shine through daily in both her attitude and efforts.
