Clara's Story

Nearly seven years ago, Clara first heard about Homes for Independent Living, A MyPath Company through a friend who shared the meaningful work we do. At that time, she wasn’t familiar with HIL, MyPath, or the clients we support. However, something about that conversation resonated with her, and Clara decided to apply. She had no idea that this decision would lead to such a fulfilling and rewarding career.

From the very beginning, Clara realized she had found the right place. She remembers, “I just knew I had found the right work when I started enjoying coming in each and every day.” For Clara, it was never just about having a job, it was about making a real difference in the lives of the people she supports.

Over the years, Clara has taken on several roles within HIL, each one contributing to her growth and strengthening her relationships with clients. Now, as the DSS at our Apple House CBRF, Clara has worked in both CBRF and LTB homes, connecting with nearly every client in the Jefferson Region.

When asked about her typical day, Clara shares, “I enjoy my mornings coming in and getting clients ready for the day. I like finding new activities to do with the clients as well.” But for Clara, her role is about much more than just activities, it’s about building relationships. “It’s the little things that mean the most,” she says. Whether she’s spending one-on-one time with clients, listening to their stories, or seeing smiles on their faces, Clara finds joy in the small moments that make a big impact.

Clara also wishes more people understood the nature of the work at HIL. “I wish more people knew and understood the work we do,” she reflects. “The impact we have on our clients’ lives is incredible. It’s more than just providing services; it’s about helping them live their best lives possible.”

For Clara, the most rewarding aspect of her job is knowing she makes a difference. Whether she’s helping a client try something new or simply being there to listen, bringing joy and making someone’s day better is what fuels her passion. “Making an impact on the lives of others truly brings me joy,” she says.
