The program managers were always happy to see Sharon on their schedules, as they knew the clients were in good hands when she was there.

It’s said there are certain qualities that make a great caregiver – passion, empathy, patience, and a positive encouraging attitude. Sharon Grosenick exhibits these qualities in everything she does and 24 years later, Homes for Independent Living (HIL), a MyPath Company is lucky to still have Sharon as an integral part of the Jefferson team.

She began her career at HIL in the Jefferson Region as a full-time direct care professional in one of the region’s community-based residential programs. She had learned of an opening through an acquaintance who remarked that HIL was a wonderful company to work for.

Over the years, Sharon has worn many hats. After giving birth to her youngest child, she moved into a casual position where she enjoyed working with a variety of clients who needed various levels of support. The clients Sharon supported thrived because of the time and attention she provided to them. We asked one of the clients what they liked the most about working with her, and they said “she would listen to all my stories no matter how many times I told it. Sharon always listened like it was the first time I was telling it.”

After working several years in a casual position, Sharon did return to full-time where she worked with a unique individual who had a brain injury. She developed a special connection with the client who, in the past, had been labeled as “difficult to work with.” Sharon cared for him for seven years until he passed away.

She then moved into a CBRF Float position, working between the CBRFs in the region. The program managers were always happy to see Sharon on their schedules, as they knew the clients were in good hands when Sharon was there.

In 2019, Sharon transitioned to her biggest role at HIL when she accepted the Direct Support Supervisor position at Apple House. She had amazing successes with this program, bringing stability, confidence, and team work to the home. Sharon’s staff appreciated her approach that every day was a new day to get through together and the staff always knew they could depend on her.

Early in 2023, Sharon decided to move back to a full-time direct care position so she could spend more time with her family, including her grandson. She said, “It was one of the hardest decisions that I have ever made, but I think it was the right one.”

Sharon has officially worked in every program in the Jefferson County Region and has provided every client with the same spectacular level of care, respect, and security.
